From our green wedge in the suburbs to our pristine waterways – our environment is a major tourism drawcard and is home to our beautiful, local wildlife.
The Victorian Government isn’t just talking about protecting the environment, we’re getting on with it.
We’ve already invested $2.4 billion to protect our environment. That funding comes on top of ambitious climate action targets, with Victoria powering on towards 95% renewable energy by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2045.
With this Budget, we're investing:
- $84 million to keep backing land conservation programs, including the Conservation Regulator, Southern Otway Landcare Network, Parklands Albury Wodonga, Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups, remediating the Lemon Springs illegal waste site, maintaining a stronger EPA, and addressing critical risks to marine and coastal assets.
- $10 million to establish a Green Links fund to support revegetation along our creeks, rivers, and waterways.
- $9.3 million to support not‑for‑profit and community veterinary clinics, pet shelters, animal rescue and rehoming organisations, and to modernise our animal welfare laws.
- $9.2 million for wildlife protection programs including a new wildlife hospital, emergency support, hospital services, extending the Zoos Victoria Wildlife Outreach program, and protecting the Helmeted Honeyeater and Leadbeater's Possum.
